At the White Cliffs of Dover, mobile phones may receive the message “Bonjour, welcome to France,” transmitted across the Channel. In No Bonjour, Lit responds with a portable EMF-shielding umbrella, a wearable barrier against invisible address.
Drawing on Michel Foucault’s analysis of disciplinary power, the work treats signal as a mechanism of exposure. The border operates not only as territory but as transmission:a field in which bodies are located, named, and rendered perceptible. To receive is to be positioned.
The umbrella stages a controlled refusal. Extending the concerns of The Discipline of Care (2026), the work reveals how space is regulated through ambient systems of surveillance. Shelter becomes counter-measure: a temporary perimeter asserted within conditions of continuous visibility.
