Grade 4-Grade5 (9-10 years old) Jean Parker Elementary
The Artist in School program at Jean Parker Elementary, organized by the Chinese Cultural Center (CCC), offers 4th and 5th graders a unique opportunity to engage with traditional crafts through hands-on learning. CCC is dedicated to preserving and promoting Chinese culture, fostering community connections, and providing educational experiences that celebrate heritage.
Under the guidance of Hong Kong artist Lit Wing Hung, students embark on a seven-week journey exploring the art of cheongsam creation. They learn essential sewing techniques, fabric selection, and design principles, ultimately crafting their own unique garments.
This program culminated in a vibrant fashion show, showcasing the students' impressive handmade cheongsams. The initiative not only fosters artistic skills but also strengthens community ties, bridging generations and preserving rich traditions. The partnership with the iconic Dragon Seed Store highlights the program’s commitment to cultural exploration and artistic growth, empowering young artists to express their creativity while honoring their heritage. Through CCC's efforts, these young artisans are inspired to keep their cultural legacy alive.
