THE ARTS-HAUL 001
Curated by Kyan Ng
curatorial statement:
The Arts-Haul is an experimental project that reimagines the U-Haul truck, transforming it from a transitional moving storage unit into a dynamic art space that exposes, engages, and cultivates art experiences for a broader audience.
Drawing on the DIY spirit in artists' experiences and American daily life, especially embodied in truck rental culture, Arts-Haul investigates the potential of integrating art practices into day-to-day life. Utilizing U-Haul's mobility, the project brings accessible art experiences to diverse communities, reaching audiences that might not engage with traditional art spaces.
The inaugural Arts-Haul exhibition features sculptural works by Hong Kong artist Lit Wing Hung alongside collaborative performances by Phoenix-based artists Jaden Dai and Byran Beckon.
Traveling in a specially designed route, the Arts-Haul exhibition will make stops at the parking lots at Phoenix Art Museum, Home Depot, and Walmart on December 26, 2024, following the scheduled times.
Artists will be present at each location to foster dialogue, share their creative processes, and invite audience interaction.
